Relaxing on a state-of-the art reclining leather dining chair with an unheard of 10 year quality guarantee we are given our first glimpse of Batch’s innovative take on the furniture scene. Paul and Jules are the formidable duo at the helm of Batch’s furniture.

Having owned two large furniture stores previously, Paul jumped at the opportunity to acquire batch’s six years ago and since then has grown the business while staying true to its roots in the process.

Established in the gold rush era, same may recall Batch’s from its time being located on the corner of Armstrong and Skipton Street. In those early days, luxury timber furniture was handcrafted from the basement work shop by carpentry apprentices employed by the local school of mines. As a born and bred local, Paul used to walk past Batch’s store as a boy on his way to school, never imagining he would someday own the business.

Today, Paul and Jules continues this philosophy of excellence, with hand-selected pieces sourced locally and from around the globe. Having recently reintroduced Australian bedding, mattresses and bedroom furniture into their expanding range, Batch’s has become a contemporary brand destination that has the likes of Tessa, Molmic, Stressless and IMG to name a few displayed in its showroom.

Jules, a qualified interior stylist, recently joined the team after an 11-year stint at Home Beautiful Magazine and brings a wealth of talent to the mix. She can assist with the full service, from selection to installation, and can draw on a sizable range beyond what you see in the store. Batch’s offers a complete experience to its customers, including everything from a complimentary styling service to home visits.

Having generations of families return to the store is further testament to Batch’s solid reputation. It is renowned throughout the Western district for its quality and innovative design pieces. Another part of the store’s appeal is that furniture can be made to order and custom fitted to cater for customer’s individual tastes and that will enhance their comfort and lifestyle.

With exciting collaborations in the works and a refreshed online presence in progress, Batch’s provide regional and rural communities with the convenience of global-style selections that are accessible locally.

Winter 2019

Can you describe this space for us?
This space is all about relaxation. The brief was to create a beautiful lounge space that was luxurious, warm and welcoming. We decided on a softer blush-pink sofa that looked inviting, comfortable and relaxed and featured a deeper seat with feather-wrapped foam cushions. The Haymes Paint olive-green wall introduced warmth and sophistication. Marble tables and a gold floor lamp added a little luxe whilst being practical. Pops of greenery introduced texture and balanced the framed Protea artwork, pulling the room together. The introduction of the grey basket and scatter cushions added the final layer of depth and interest.

It became a perfect living room to relax, enjoy a quiet read, and have a glass of bubbles.

Who are your biggest style influences?
Multi-award winning Los Angeles-based interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard is my absolute guru. Renowned for his broad range of styles and eclectic, yet sophisticated interiors, I just love his flamboyant, brave clashes with rich colour and heavy pattern.

What are some upcoming trends you see emerging?
Curves – It’s all about curves, soft angles and organic shapes, giving tables, sofas and armchairs a more fluid shape. Organic and soothing, curves provide softness and help your space feel more relaxed and inviting.

Handcrafted – There is an increased focus on natural and handcrafted elements that are dominated by earthy colours such as warm beige, burnt orange and terracotta, offset by soothing shades of green. Warm tweed textures, rattan, velvet, leather, linen and terrazzo all blend together.

Maximalist – Maximalist elements and boho style merge to create an eclectic approach to glamour. Coffee, console and side tables with marble tops will be key and add an element of sophistication as well as practicality. Luxury and glamour are created by incorporating metals – silver, gold, brass or copper – into furniture, or as stand-alone pieces. Pattern will continue to inspire, embracing contrasting prints and textures. With glamorous wallpapers and velvet cushions, the maximalist interior look is all about balancing eclectic finds with carefully thought-out design.

In terms of interiors, what are you personally loving at the minute? Do you have a favourite piece for this season?
I’ve been having so much fun with ottomans this season. The multifunctional ottoman in the right fabric can instantly add so much personality. An ottoman at the end of a bed can provide much needed storage, seating and work back with bedheads to introduce a lovely luxurious feel. Round ottomans with different shapes and heights in complementary fabrics work well as coffee tables, side tables, extra seating or a place to rest your weary feet.

What can we expect from the Batch’s styling service?
Our interior styling service ranges from styling a complete interior to simply freshening up zones within your home. Bringing an interior stylist into your home provides a qualified pair of eyes to assess not only what looks good in a room but also how the space will best function. We conduct a home visit or work from photographs and floor plans brought into our showroom. From there we’ll offer expert advice and guidance, providing you with mood boards, colour palettes, furniture recommendations and a final proposal that will bring your dream home to life.
